About Rider University

Rider University is a private, selective, coeducational and nonsectarian university located in Lawrenceville, which is a census-designated place and unincorporated area located within Lawrence Township in Mercer County, in New Jersey, with a population estimated at a number of more than 4000 inhabitants, during the 2000 census.

Rider University was founded as Trenton Business College, in 1865, in Trenton, later becoming known as The Rider Business College, being moved to its present location, in Lawrenceville, in 1964, becoming a university in 1994. It is academically organized into 5 colleges and schools, which are: the College of Business Administration, Education and Sciences, the College of Liberal Arts, the College of Continuing Studies, and the Westminster College of the Arts (which contains the School of Fine and Performing Arts, and Westminster Choir College).

The university’s athletic teams are known as the Rider Broncs, who compete in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), including in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA), for wrestling only, Riders University being a Division I member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The university also competed in football until 1951, when it was placed under investigation for improper benefits for players on the team, fact which shut down the football team. The Broncs often referred to their football team as "undefeated since 1951", as they have not existed since that time.

Among the most resonant names, on the list of Rider’s notable alumni, there are: John R. Tracy - Senior Finance Director at Motorola, Inc., Stephen J. Cosgrove - Vice President and corporate controller for Johnson & Johnson, Robert D. Clifton - Monmouth County Freeholder, Thomas McCabe - Vice President and Fiduciary Investment Officer at Merrill Lynch Bank and Trust Co. FSB, and Danny Napoleon - outfielder in Major League Baseball from 1965 to 1966 with the New York Mets, among others.
